Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, Co-Founder of Destiny Haven

If you're looking for a therapist who brings both professional expertise and lived experience, you're in the right place. I specialise in trauma recovery, addiction, and supporting those carrying emotional pain that’s often been misunderstood, minimised, or ignored.

My name is Janine, and for over 17 years I’ve worked with individuals, couples and therapists navigating the complex realities of trauma, grief, addiction and inner conflict.

Before entering the world of counselling, I spent years as a full-time musician performing across Australia. Behind the stage lights, though, I was battling addiction. In 1994, my husband Lewis and I entered residential rehab which was a turning point that led to lasting freedom and a life rooted in recovery and purpose.

Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to walking with others through their own healing journeys. I’ve completed a Master of Counselling, and hold qualifications in Family Therapy, Mental Health, Intercultural Studies, AOD, and Comorbidity. Today, I serve as Clinical Services Manager at Destiny Haven, the women’s residential recovery program Lewis and I co-founded in 2007. I design, facilitate and oversee the therapeutic program, support our counselling team, and work directly with women who are rebuilding their lives after trauma and life-controlling challenges.

I believe healing starts with safety. Feeling seen, heard, and not judged. My work is relational, steady, and honest. I meet people where they are and walk with them, not ahead of them, through whatever they’re carrying. I’m passionate about helping people discover their true worth and value, not just as a concept, but as something they can begin to believe deep in their bones.

I combine professional training with a trauma-informed lens rooted in the work of renowned trauma experts like Dr Janina Fisher and Dr Bessel Van Der Kolk. But more than credentials, I bring empathy, presence and the ability to sit with people in their hardest moments without turning away. Whether we’re talking about your past, your pain or your relationships, there’s room for all of it here.
